Located in Freshkills park this is a very easy and family friendly “Micro Hike” at 0.5 miles. The trail is well marked with pink blazers making it easy to follow and perfect for families with children looking to get out and explore little. The wooden blanks add a nice feel and functionality to the trail in order to keep your feet out of the mud while still having a chance to see some water loving trees.
Most of Freshkills park is currently closed and under construction. It is said to be one of the most ambitious public projects in the world using state-of-the art ecological restoration techniques to bring it to life. Its going to cover 2,200 acres, almost 3x larger than Manhattan’s Central Park. We can’t wait for some future trips back to Freshkills in the near future.
