Camping at Fort Wadsworth, Staten Island

Thanks to @kimberly.llee and @gatewaynps for some of the pics

DESCRIPTION:

You’re itching to get outside, pitch a tent and spend a night under the stars but it’s Saturday and you have work on Monday. What’s an outdoorsy New Yorker to do?

Head over to Staten Island’s Fort Wadsworth Camp Grounds, part of Gateway’s National Park Service. For $30 you can reserve yourself a primitive camp site which is big enough for one large tent or two small tents (up to six people can camp on a single site). There is a picnic table and fire ring w/ grill on each site. Restrooms and showers are located at the facility.

You must bring your own tent, sleeping bags, food and water bottle (these can be refilled at the National park Office). Bug spray is a must during summer months.

No pets, glass or alcohol are permitted- Quiet Hours: 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Some fun things to check out around the area

Beach (Steps away from Camp ground) there are no life guards on duty here so entering the water is at your own risk and walking down to the end of the beach with life guards is recommended.

Fort Thompkins and Battery Weed tours are available with Park Rangers.

Camp Grounds do book up fast so reserve in advance! ( Click the “Check ‘Em Out button below)
