Surfing Rockaway Beach RBNY
Photos taken by NYC Parks & Station RBNY
Surfing in NYC is closer than you think, roughly an hour away from the city, Queens is home to Rockaway Beach, the surfing mecca of New York. Cruising waves or learning how to comes easy with surf schools spread out across the beaches ready to provide you with rentals and lessons.
Our personal favorite is owned by Nigel Louis. Station RBNY, located near Rockaway Beach is a retail shop dedicated to surfing, skating and stand up paddleboarding. The surf scene and community is at the heart of what they offer, from rentals and lessons to board lockers, demos and repairs. They not only offer private surf lessons over the summer, but during colder months they gather the community together for in water paddling clean ups to keep the beach clean for future generations.
