Hiking Jamaica Bay Wild Life Refuge (A Gateway National Park)

Now is the perfect time to get out and find some local trails, and I mean local ! Just a short bike ride over to Jamaica Bay’s Wild Life Refuge right here in Queens, NY, is a National Park. This National Park is home to some beautiful and tranquil hikes (minus honking horns) . The west pond trail is a mile long loop trail on gravel, great for bird watching & spotting. The east pond was a .5mile loop dirt trail with an open view point.

“The Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge covers 9,000 acres (20 square miles) of open bay, saltmarsh, mudflats, upland field and woods, two man-made brackish ponds—117-acre “East Pond” and 45-acre “West Pond” and small fresh water ponds, including Big John’s Pond”- Jamaica Wildlife Refuge
