Kaaterskill Falls Trail - Winter
Kaaterskill Falls
Winter Endeavor
Kaaterskill Falls is a 2hr 30min drive out from Brooklyn into The Catskills. This trail is beautiful in the summer but way more majestic and tranquil during the winter. Parking is worth mentioning here, as the parking lot is located up the road which requires a dash across traffic and a five minute walk back to the trail head along side moving traffic. The hike itself increases in elevation fairly quick and includes wooden stairs along the path. Dress warm, this trail gets extra cold from the mist blowing off the waterfalls. Crampons (spikes for a boot used for walking on ice of any kind) would def come in handy here as slipping on icy rocks becomes part of the winter challenge on the way back down. Although the winter conditions add some extra obstacles the payoff for two partially frozen waterfalls is worth it.
