Hiking- The John Muir Trail | Van Cortlandt Park
The John Muir trail is a 1.5 mile dirt path that traverses through Van Cortlandt Park from east to west. This is an easy to moderate dirt trail with low foot traffic (we seen maybe one or two people on the weekend). With nice bright red trail markers on the trees this forest is super easy and fun to navigate. The trail will lead you through the parks red oak, sweetgum, and Hickory tree forests, passed an Old Croton Aqueduct and a large marsh. If your hanging in the bronx and in need of some quiet green space this is the trail for you.
Always remember to Leave No Trace (take all of your garbage with you) and if you can bring a spare bag to take some other trash out along with you. In a city like NYC even the smallest efforts make a difference.
